Today, the church no longer exists in its original form; most of the building originates from about 1903, when the major part of the former church building (built in 1518) was demolished. The steeple of this church and a part of the original nave was preserved to this day, although it is not completely unaltered. The portal in the steeple from 1670 is very valuable, and there are numerous items of historical significance inside the church, including the stunning headstones and the famous oil painting of St. Nicholas by the painter Fortunat Bergant.
