The 14 km long trail, leading among the hop fields of the Savinja Valley and other tourist attractions, has its roots in the traditional annual event - the Hike along the Hop Trail, starting in front of the Slovenian Hop and Beer Museum.
This year, we embark on it on Saturday, August 31, 2024, starting at 8 a.m.
However, you can also embark on the trail yourself throughout the year and hike through an interesting part of the Savinja Valley, between Žalec and Šempeter. At that time, we recommend starting and ending the trail at the Slovenian Hop and Beer Museum in Žalec, where hikers can visit an interesting collection spread over several floors and also taste the house beer Kukec - Savinja beer.
This year, the hike will take place in the opposite direction as in the past; thus, the first stop will be the Roman Necropolis in Šempeter - an archaeological park with magnificent tombs of Roman dignitaries, richly decorated with Roman mythological motifs. The trail then follows the Savinja River to Lake Vrbje, a natural reserve and sanctuary for over 170 species of birds. The next stop is Novo Celje Mansion, where one of the first hop plantations was planted in our country. And when your feet start to ache and you need a break, you arrive back at the final point - the Fountain of Green Gold beer.
The trail is passable in all seasons, but most interesting at the end of summer, when the hops and hop fields create an interesting green "curtain".
The Hop Trail was chosen as the second-best themed trail in Slovenia in 2011.
In case of bad weather, the event will be canceled!
